During the revolt of the Egyptian army, General Gordon, the commander of the British Forces was killed. It was this act that prompted the Governments support of a NSW contingency in 1885 to the Soudan.
The British and Egyptian Governments took control of the uprising with advice from the British to the Khedive of Egypt. The Khedives Star is of bronze. It was awarded in a similar number to the Egypt Medal. Approximately 700.
