Awarded for operational flying over Europe and UK from UK bases between 3 September 1939 and 4 June 1944. Qualifying period was 2 months between these dates.

Applicable Clasps – Atlantic or France and Germany (in lieu of stars issue). The colours of the ribbon represent blue for the sky, yellow for search lights and black for night time flying.

Approximately 3,200 were issued to Australians.
